CALL FOR PAPERS | Fall 2024 Conference

The East Texas Historical Association invites proposals for papers, sessions, roundtables, and poster sessions for its 2024 annual fall meeting to be held in Nacogdoches, Texas, from Thursday, September 26 through Saturday, September 28, 2024. The host hotel for the meeting is the historic Fredonia Hotel & Conference Center.

The program committee supports topics that cover all aspects of East Texas regional history, including, but not limited to, social, economic, political, cultural, preservation, and material culture, along with topics that address Texas history generally but are aligned to East Texas. We hope to receive sessions that are focused on a wide area of inquiry about East Texas history from teaching and curriculum, historiography, biographical, underrepresented regional communities, literature, publishing, and historical consciousness in a new century.

Both Standard presentations and Student presentations are considered. The presentations being sought may be:

General Conference Presentation Session (75 minutes):

General conference sessions are scheduled throughout the conference and include two and three-person presentations that embrace a topic and invite interactive conversation between presenters and the audience.

  • Two-Person Session – two presenters, chair, commentator/discussant

  • Three-Person Session – three presenters and chair

Roundtable Discussion Session (75 minutes):

A roundtable discussion session is a collection of presenters sharing their work in a single setting over a concentrated theme/topic of interest. The exchange is in-depth and may include empirical and conceptual work to support the theme of the session. This session includes a chair to introduce the session, presenters, and facilitate the discussion.

Poster Session Discussion (45 minutes):

The poster session is designed for presenters who wish to showcase their work via poster boards after the Association lunch and during Association breaks. The poster session presentations allow for one-on-one discussions with the presenter and attendees about the presenter’s work. Posters will be set up within the ETHA registration and lunch areas for showcasing.

The East Texas Historical Association, headquartered on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX, is committed to the preservation and enhancement of East Texas’ great historical heritage. For more information, visit our website or phone at 936-468-2407.
